The Autonics proximity sensor PR18-5DP features outstanding noise protection and stable sensing performance due to its specialized sensor IC developed by Autonics. This sensor comes in a round cylindrical shape, sensing distance of 5mm, sensing side diameter and housing size of m18 and shield (flush) installation. The standard cylindrical inductive sensor can be used in diverse applications requiring non-contact detection of metallic objects.

Body

This proximity sensor’s case and nut parts are made of nickel plated brass, its sensing side is made of PBT, and its washer is nickel plated iron made.

The PR18-5DP features IP67 ingress protection, which allows it to be used in water with maximum depth of 1 meter, up to half an hour.

The red LED on its body acts as the process indicator.

Connection

The Autonics inductive sensor PR18-5DP features standard cable type connection. This black cable covers the sensors 3 wires. It is 5 mm in diameter and 2 meters in length, and is made of PVC.

Sensing specifications

This inductive sensor’s sensing side diameter is 18 mm. The maximum distance that this sensor can detect its standard sensing target, which is a 18x18x1 mm piece of iron, is 5 mm. This so called sensing distance differs from one sensing target to another, based on their material, size, etc.

Although almost no one talks about the setting distance of an inductive sensor, it is a big deal to know this concept. Every sensor can detect its standard sensing target in a specified range, no matter what changes occur in ambient temperature, voltage fluctuations, etc. This distance, which is called the setting distance, is from 0 to 3.5 mm for this proximity sensor.

Control output

The PR18-5DP features PNP Normally Open control output, which means that there would be no voltage on output while the sensor is not actuated. PNP stands for Positive-Negative-Positive transistors.

Temperature

There are limitations in temperature and humidity in which PRL18-5DN proximity sensor is used:

  • Storage temperature: -30 … 80°C
  • Storage humidity: 35 to 95%RH
  • Ambient temperature: -25 … 70°C
  • Ambient humidity: 35 to 95%RH

Environment resistance is rated at no freezing or condensation.
