The PRL18-8DN inductive proximity sensor features stable sensing performance and high noise resistant with a specialized sensor IC developed by Autonics. The standard cylindrical inductive sensor, which features m18 size and 8 mm sensing distance, can be used in Various applications requiring non-contact detection of metallic objects. The PRL18-8DN is available in DC 3-wire type.

Body

The PRL18-8DN nut and case are made of nickel-plated brass, its sensing side is PBT made and the washer is made of nickel-plated iron.

Ingress protection of this proximity sensor is IP67 according to IEC standard, which means that it can work properly in water with depth of up to 1 meter for at most half an hour.

Red LED on this sensor’s body acts as the operation indicator.

Connection

The PRL18-8DN inductive sensor’s connection is cable type. This standard black cable is 2 m in length and 5 mm in diameter. This PVC made cable covers the sensor’s 3 wires.

Sensing specifications

The sensing side diameter of PRL18-8DN inductive sensor is 18 mm. Inductive proximity sensors can detect their standard sensing target in a maximum distance. this so called sensing distance is 8 mm, for the PRL18-8DN. The sensing distance differs from a sensing target to another, based on the target’s materialdimension and other physical properties. This sensor’s standard sensing target is a 25x25x1 mm piece of iron.

Although almost no one talks about the setting distance of an inductive proximity sensor, it is a big deal for customer to know that setting distance describes the distance in which the proximity sensor can detect the standard sensing target, even if the sensing distance is decreased due to temperature or voltage fluctuations. Setting distance of the PRL18-8DN is 0 to 5.6 mm.

Control output

The control output of this 12V proximity sensor switch is NPN Normally Open. The “open” part means as the sensor is not actuated, there would be no voltage on the output.

There are limitations in temperature and humidity in which PRL18-8DN proximity sensor is used:
