The Autonics proximity sensor PRCM18-5DN features outstanding noise protection and stable sensing performance due to its specialized sensor IC developed by Autonics. This NPN NO proximity sensor comes in a round cylindrical shape, sensing distance of 5mm, sensing side diameter and housing size of m18 and shield (flush) installation. The standard cylindrical inductive sensor can be used in diverse applications requiring non-contact detection of metallic objects.

Body

This Autonics NPN NO proximity sensor’s case and nut parts are made of nickel-plated brass, its sensing side is made of PBT, and its washer is nickel plated iron made.

The PRCM18-5DN features IP67 ingress protection.

The red LED on its body acts as the process indicator.

Connection

The Autonics NPN NO proximity sensor PRCM18-5DN features standard cable type connection. This black cable covers the sensors 3 wires.

Sensing specifications

This inductive sensor’s sensing side diameter is 18 mm. The maximum distance that this sensor can detect its standard sensing target, which is a 18x18x1 mm piece of iron, is 5 mm. This so-called sensing distance differs from one sensing target to another, based on their material, size, etc.

Although almost no one talks about the setting distance of an inductive sensor, it is a big deal to know this concept. Every sensor can detect its standard sensing target in a specified range, no matter what changes occur in ambient temperature, voltage fluctuations, etc. This distance, which is called the setting distance, is from 0 to 3.5 mm for this proximity sensor.

Control output

The PRCM18-5DN features NPN Normally Open control output. NPN stands for Negative-Positive-Negative transistors.

There are limitations in temperature and humidity in which PRCM18-5DN proximity sensor is used:
