DESCRIPTION
Autonics cylindrical inductive proximity sensor PR12-4DN
Non-shield (non-flush), Cable type, 4 mm Sensing distance
The Autonics proximity sensor PR12-4DN features solid sensing performance and excellent noise immunity with a specialized sensor IC developed by Autonics itself. Available in m12 sensing side diameter and 4 mm sensing distance, the standard cylindrical inductive sensor can be used in diverse applications which require non-contact detection of metallic objects. The PR12-4DN is a DC 3-wire type inductive sensor.
As a quick report, this inductive proximity sensor provides:
- 12 mm sensing side diameter
- with NPN Normally open control output
- Iron made standard sensing target with 12x12x1 mm dimensions
- Improved noise resistance with dedicated IC (DC 3 wire)
- Long life cycle and simple operations
- Reverse polarity, surge, and over-current protection
- IP67 ingress protection according to IEC standards
- Red LED status indicator
- Alternative to micro switches and limit switches
Body
The nut and case parts of PR12-4DN are made of nickel plated brass, its sensing side is made of PBT, and the washer part is nickel plated iron made.
The sensor’s ingress protection rate is IP67 according to IEC standard. That means this sensor can be used in water with depth of up to 1 meter, for at most half an hour.
This proximity sensor features a red LED on its body, as the operation indicator.
Connection
The Autonics sensor PR12-4DN connection is cable type. This standard black cable is made of PVC. It is 4 mm in diameter and covers the sensor’s 3 wires.
Sensing specifications
This inductive sensor features a 12 mm sensing side diameter. The maximum distance that an inductive proximity sensor can detect its standard sensing target in, is named sensing distance. The sensing distance for the PR12-4DN is 4 mm. This sensing distance differs from an object to another, based on their material, dimension, etc. Standard sensing target for this sensor is a 12x12x1 mm iron made piece.
Although almost no one talks about the setting distance of an inductive proximity sensor, It’s necessary to know that for PR12-4DN is 0 to 2.8 mm. Setting distance is the distance is which the sensor can detect its standard sensing target, no matter what changes happened in temperature, voltage, etc. These changes can affect sensing distance, though.
Control output
This inductive proximity sensor’s control output is NPN Normally Open. It means that as the sensor is actuated, no voltage on the output will be recognized.
Temperature
There are limitations in temperature and humidity in which this M12 NPN NO inductive sensor is used:
- Ambient temperature: -25 … 70°C
- Ambient humidity: 35 to 95%RH
- Storage temperature: -30 … 80°C
- Storage humidity: 35 to 95%RH
Environment resistance is rated at no freezing or condensation.
Industries / applications:
- Automated production lines
- Part detection on industrial conveyor systems
